The Crawling (UK) CD."Wolves and the Hideous White"
The Crawling from UK arrives and presents us with an album that is simply brutal. "Wolves and the Hideous White" is the incredible CD. that we are presented here with a mix of black, doom, death, dark and many styles together that always haunt the darkness completely. A band that surprised me and that really enchanted me in its staging. Subject after subject are falling and each one is darker than the predecessor. These Lisburn natives make clear the sound of utter misery and open doors for such a decadent and humiliating void as is the sound of this band. The density and supremacy that they display goes hand in hand with the virtuosity that they leave on this plate. Of the six themes of the CD. coming to an end with "Promises and Parasites" it is a lapidary closing that as a funeral ends the grab history of the sound described above. I recommend if you are a lover of darkness but look for something else...
Frostland natives of old Cologne Germany. Cold, funny and very lugubre
is the dark black metal that practicein his album presented
to us today. Winterkult the name of the surprising plate with topics such as
"83 ° 41`20,7``N, 31 ° 5`26,8``W, Fragmente im Sturm, Aurora
Borealis" Melodies and a lot of darkness in each theme, they could really
become an ass band following this dark path they have taken. Drum that never
stops its march, melodious but very aggressive guitars without leaving the
genre and a crushing voice from the beginning to a serious and acute guttural
impeccable and very high quality. The description of a sound that you must
experiment in order to identify falls short. Frostland is Voices, Bass: MCS

Horrorgraphy
Greece band presents its album 2018 Season of Grief, dark gothic symphony. A
dark metal symphony that reminds us of the best records and times of Therion,
quite simple muscia sometimes without falling into simplicity. It transmits a
lot of feeling and desolacion, as these bands should be. In the vocal part we
can feel the strength of the lyric voice throughout the whole album and the
combination with the guttural and serious voice that leads us to very
remarkable extreme passages. This new band is remarkable and quite pleasant
lara the world scene. Greece continues to contribute much to our entire scene.

The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah (Therion cover) Only 500 copies of this work
were released if you like the gothic metal scene, you can have in mind to make
a copy, I recommend them, music for connoisseurs of good metal.
Excommunicated band of death black metal originating from USA present us
their disc Death Devout almost in its entirety a disc of covers of 2018.
Remember that this band has a theme of the dark history of the Catholic church
that is what their lyrics are about and so is the intro of that album. A theme
of protest quite original to this sector of society, and DD is a record where
you hear many choirs and you imagine in the church but a damn good. A voice
that reminds you of the first Malevolent Creation and a music that is primarily
death metal but with black influence. Excommunicated is: Mike Heller Drums
Bruno Muenzler Bass Jonathan Joubert Guitars, Bass Jason McIntyre Guitars, Bass
Chad Kelly Vocals Active since 2010 and supported by the label UW Records, they
bring us this album of 2018 that only edited 500 copies and started with themes
such as: Excommunicate and Anathema Body Count (Morgoth cover) And Here I Die
... Satisfied (Grave cover) Edible Autopsy (Cannibal Corpse cover) Nightmare
Lake (Cemetary cover) For God Your Soul, For Me Your Flesh (Pungent Stench
cover) Inside the Torn Apart (Napalm Death cover) Quite good and quality each
version, giving an original and interesting touch to each versioned theme. We
continue the madness and insanity with: Intoxicated (Obituary cover) Lunatic of
God's Creation (Deicide cover) World Eater (Bolt Thrower cover) The Invocation
Day of Suffering (Morbid Angel cover) Blessed Are the Sick / Leading the Rats
(Morbid Angel cover) Theme after theme sounds brutal since they chose very
classic pieces from each band and they sound with an excellent quality. It is
followed by an outro to close with two themes of the legendary: Anal Cunt and
Samhain. Bone Fragments (Outro) Radio Hit (Anal Cunt cover) Archangel (Samhain
cover) If you like covers and you follow death metal, do not miss this album.
Black
Blizzard (The Art of Evil/Satanica Productions)
This
band is from germany and have a very unique and a bit odd dark atmospheric
blend of sound between doom, death and black metal. Black Blizzard is also a
quite old band in the game and have kept on going since 2004, but as musician
in over 20 years. Too sad is that the band is too underestimated and have not
got the respectful respond & positive feeback that I think they would get
and deserve. This is not a full length, but one hell of a good (and long) ep
release from the band that was released in february this year. First track out
is "The Art of Evil" (title song) and is absolutely a real killer
track that make me think of the early Amorphis, Behemoth and Darkthrone in one,
this one I can hear over and over again "damn excellent". Second up
"Edge of Death" that is a bit slower, but still got this perfect dark
feeling sound in it. Third track "Grave of Slave" starts up good, but
does not really have the same energy & sound in it, but is good but a
weaker track. Fourth one "Master" delivering some great blackened art
in the same position as the first one, this is brilliant! Fifth track of this
ep made me think of later Celtic Frost & Triptykon, damn this is great with
such a nice sound from the start to the end. Last track "Erased" is
just an outro song, but a melodical and dark harmonical one that got the
feelings from later Bathory (a bit pagan/folky over it). Over all I can just
say about this band that have so far done over nine full lengths and also some
ep´s & demos is that if you not have heard or knows anything about this band?
You just have to check them out...hmm or him as it is a one man band, Black
Blizzard is something to count for. ;)
Upon Shadows - 7 Chapters (Shadows of Despair and
Other Entities)
This is the second full length album from the female
dark metal band Upon Shadows that comes from Uruguay called "7 Chapters
(Shadows of Despair and Other Entities)" and includes 7 tracks. And I can
also tell that if you are into gothic this is also a band to check up for sure.
First up is "Cold steel & concrete" that is a truly collection of
beautiful melodies combined together with a raw melody of black metal with both
faster and slower parts.The album starts very nice and dark and this is also
just the start of it. Second track "Breaking path to resignation" is
very likely the first track with piano playing and then I also must say a very
well played that suits perfect with the raw guitar and vocals. Next track
"Our Sadness" is a totally masterpiece in my opinion, a perfect
combine of raw black metal and some gothic elements. If you dont like the other
tracks you cannot resist this one. Fourth one "Spiritual Submission"
is much like the one before, also a brilliant song and I also shall add that
Upon Shadows is very classical somehow in their composing, if a band could be
called new and modern classic dark/gothic metal, this band would suits that
labelling perfect. And there is not many other bands out there that have this
sound. Fifth one "The way to the Pleiades" is cool one that starts up
much like many fashion likely metal bands of today (nu metal), but there you
got it wrong, just after a little more than a minute the typical sound of Upon
Shadows returns and that is good, but I must say that I personally enjoy the
tracks on this album more and more after every listening. It is absolutely not
enough to have just one short Iistening to it I can assure you. Next to go is
"Alchemy of Suffering that is the sixth one, starts up slow and mysterious
and goes over to a very symphonical part that feels right into my bones. This
one is damn great I must say and feels a bit depressive too in sound, but
without to call it depressive metal. The band combines so many cool rhythms,
musical elements in their music that you cannot really unlike this dark art.
Last track up is the "Tragic Prelude" that is quite long one, but not
at all repetitive as they do it so good (much shifting). Sometimes you gets the
vibes of bands like Katatonia, Nocra, Sirannon, Tiamat, Asbel and even bands
like old Blut aus Nord & Sol Evil to mention some that this reminds of
"sometimes". The band does it their own way so do not forgetting
that. This album comes in a very nice cool special packing with a double digi
pack looking style and with 12 pages booklet. This is a very professionally
made CD with a real awesome done cover art with it that makes this cd a very
special place in my record collection. And some of the tracks that I thinks is
more stronger than the others is number two, three, four and number six. So to
say my special favorite songs I guess. My last words is that this is a truly
recommended album that I believe many will feel satisfying and full of pure
melodic darkness. Hails!
T: Hello Martin!! Find much difference in sound between their CD's “From the Mouth of the Passing” and “In Silence and Grief we Decay” any comments about this?
Martin: First of all hails to all readers of The Legion Of Tchort.Yes there is a difference..From the Mouth of the Passing was a very dark straight forward album which I really like, while In Silence and Grief we Decay is a more structured,doomy and moody album.I really like that every album has a character of its own.But even though different from each other there is always something which binds them.
T: About your new CD “In Silence and Grief we Decay” we can describe more about the songs: King of Terrors and Wastelands are really very good in letters and sound. What do you think about it?
Martin: King of Terrors,Wastelands and I would add, The Strength of the Sufferer are the ones which had most positive feedback.Watelands is my favourite out of these three.Though I wasn't sure if it would really fit with the rest of the album,somehow it did find its place.
T: Which is the concept of the letters of Prayer Of The Dying?
Martin: Prayer of the Dying's lyrical concept is not so complicated.They are about man's everyday life,what he has to go through to provide good entertainment to God,who has no idea what to do during eternity.That's why he invented men.
T: The CD “In Silence and Grief we Decay” is more structured than your previous work this is the sound that you used for your next production or plan to continue experimenting with new sound in the dark doom metal black?
Martin: Well, I must say that I am recording the new album.And it sounds very different from all the other Prayer of The dying releases.But there is still the old dark doom black metal of always but in a different way.I must say that I am really satisfied with the way things are going right now.

Martin: Yeah, many splits and I want more heheh...Every spilt has a story of its own...and everyone is special...I am satisfied with each and everyone of them; from the first one with Sarratum to the last one with Demorian....But my favourite is the one with Thy legion-"Into the World's Oppression”.Besides they are great friends and neighbours,it's the first Maltese Split ever and of course they are a hell of a band...I would like to thank all the bands I worked with,on these splits, for the opportunity to be out there with such great musicians.
T: Such work Nekrogoat Heresy Productions?
Martin: Nekrogoat Productions Heresy was always there for me.A great friend of mine is behind it.He really gave me all the support I neededfrom the first Demo to the last album.I would really like to thank him for all the years we worked together.
T: I never heard your CD. “Structures of a Dying Matter” you as you see from the time evolution of the band, making an X-ray of your band?
Martin: Structures of a Dying Matter is the first album.A very straight forward and very raw album.Honestly I was surprised with the great feedback I received.I like the evolution till now.
T: How many copies of your CD. “In Silence and Grief we Decay” As has been the distribution as well as comments?
Martin: In Silence and Grief we Decay was released as a 500 copies edition.Nekrogoat Heresy Productions and I take care of the distribution..
T: You are part of the band Sarratum in this play drums tell me more about this please? and you played in Lustre? some other?
Martin: Yes,I am Sarratum's,Lustre's and Black Vulture's drummer.I worked with Lustre in 2008 on an album called VATICANNIBALISTIC. It was released on tape only.But I also have two finished albums with Sarratum and Black Vulture which hopefully will see the light next year.
T: What are your favorite band or type of music you listen to usually?
Martin: Well, normally I listen to the early 90s underground, but I also like the sound of the 70s, especially Queen.My favourites are King Diamond,Queen and Dio.
T: How is the scene in Malta can you give us a vision that other bands in between we can recommend?
Martin: Though Malta is a small island,here are lots of great bands...I remember the early nineties,when the scene was very healthy...but these days I don't know, I see everything dying...If I can recommend 3 Maltese bands,they would be:Victims of Creation,Thy Legion and Griffin Device.

T: Tamara, como estas?, que tal las cosas con Upon Shadows?
TP : Hola, muy bien gracias. En este momento estamos grabando nuestro próximo álbum, el cual tendremos pronto para antes de fin de año.
T: En que momento decides crear Upon Shadows?, que tanto influyo estar 7 años en Eclampsy que es considerada una de las más grandes bandas Death de Uruguay?
TP : Upon Shadow surge a fines del 2002, a partir de una de las tantas separaciones de Eclampsy, decidí que quería probar algo distinto. Un proyecto donde la música no estuviera que estar tan cerrada en un estilo, sino como algo mucho más libre. Donde el teclado tuviera un rol más importante. Yo ya tenía varios temas hechos y con Natalia siempre habíamos querido hacer algo juntas así que con ayuda de Marcelo en la guitarra grabamos lo que sería nuestro primer trabajo en el 2003.
Eclampsy fue muy importante para mí ya que aparte de ser amigos yo aprendí mucho de música con ellos. Fue la primera banda de death metal en agregar teclados en mi país, y una de las más grandes en su estilo. Yo entré en 1995 y a la semana tuve que grabar por primera vez en un estudio. Y a partir de ahí, formé parte activa de la composición musical y de las letras, hasta el 2002 que nos separamos. Más tarde ellos regresaron pero yo ya no me reintegré. De todas maneras mantenemos contacto, somos todos buenos amigos.
T: Que proceso siguen para componer y trabajar?
TP : Primero que nada surge el concepto sobre el cual todo lo demás se despliega a consecuencia. Todo está encadenado. La música, el tipo de efectos y arreglos, las letras y el diseño del artwork. Es todo una gran cadena que parte de una idea. Y que tratamos de que surja de forma natural y espontanea.
T: Su música es un Dark en donde hay mucho trabajo de sintetizadores y partes atmosféricas, que nos dices del estilo?
TP : Creo que el estilo que más nos define seria el Dark Metal, porque las influencias más marcadas en mi música son Sisters Of Mercy y Samael.
En realidad el fin, es crear música de la forma más libre posible.
Los sintetizadores son una parte muy importante porque el 90% de la música de Upon Shadows está compuesta en base a eso. Antes que nada soy tecladista y adoro los sintetizadores.
T: Tienen ya dos trabajos editados "Upon Shadows" y "Huge Circles of Time", ambos en descarga gratuita, porque?
TP : La idea de crear Upon Shadows surge de mi necesidad de crear música. Pero esto dista mucho de ser un trabajo tanto para mí como para Natalia. Forma parte de nuestro placer, de lo que amamos hacer.
Y realmente no tengo interés de vender mi música porque siento que no es el fin para el que fue creada. Nuestra intención es que todo aquel que quiera invertir su tiempo en escuchar algo de lo hacemos, pueda hacerlo desde cualquier parte del mundo en el momento en quiera. No descarto la idea de que en algún momento editemos alguna versión en LP por ejemplo, porque es algo que forma parte de un capricho personal que algún día nos tendremos que dar jajaja pero, siempre manteniendo la versión de descarga gratis.
T: Que concepto encierran sus demos? Que temas abordan?
TP : Los demos de Upon Shadows son muy distintos en cuanto a conceptos.
El primero trata sobre mitos y legendas. Está enfocado en los cuatro elementos y sus personificaciones. No solo en la temática de las letras sino también en la música.
El tema referido al mar “Oceans” , por ejemplo, está llenos de arpegios de teclado que buscan representar el vaivén de las olas. Para el tema Salamandras por ejemplo busqué lograr un sonido oriental que evocara el origen del mito.
Cada tema tiene si búsqueda y su porque en nuestros demos. Cada uno es una pequeña historia donde la letra y la música están entrelazadas y forman parte de un todo en el demo.
Para el segundo “The Huge Circle Of Time” la tematica es totalmente distinta aunque también ligada a la magia de alguna forma si hablamos de magia como la manipulación de las energías.
El concepto de este demo está basado en la física cuántica.
Habla de sobre agujeros negros, y brechas en el tiempo. La música también es muy distinta, en este demo. Hay una vuelta al death melódico y la música ambiental de mis inicios. Es mucho mas urbano, mas sobre la energía como algo físico y no tan espiritual.
T: Tamara, además de Upon Shadows has colaborado en otros proyectos, como con Asbel, que tal la experiencia?
TP : Grabar con Asbel fue increíble. Surgió de manera espontanea. Yo seguía el trabajo de Ilkim Oulanem cuando vi en la página de ella que promocionaba el tema que había grabado con Asbel. Lo escuché en el perfil de myspace de Asbel y me enamoré del tema. Así que le dejé un comentario elogiando su trabajo y la idea que había tenido de invitar a Ilkim. Y para mi sorpresa, Asbel me respondió con una invitación a formar parte del disco. Ni lo pensé. Fue un algo muy grande para mi, que me invitara a formar parte de su proyecto. Y el tema que me envió para trabajar en el, era perfecto. Me encantó. Asbel tiene algo que es muy difícil de conseguir, que un sonido particular.
Creo que es de las cosas más difíciles de conseguir en la música en estos días.
La guitarra de Asbel es inconfundible y es un placer dibujar melodías sobre su música.
Las otras chicas, son geniales también. Somos las cuatro muy distintas, venimos de estilos muy diferentes pero compartimos la misma pasión por la música y el arte.
Hypotermia de Coldnight hace una música increíble en su proyecto. Con melodías muy llenas de oscuridad y melancolía. También crea sus artworks y son de un nivel excelente. Moonlike de Blackest Orchid comparte esa virtud en la pintura, pero con un estilo completamente diferente, al igual que su música.
T: Repites en el Vol. II, correcto?
TP: Sí, por suerte estoy en el Vol. II también. Esta vez somos más las mujeres que participamos y va a ser un disco más largo. Va a estar muy bueno.
Una de las cosas más increíbles de todo esto, es que solo Asbel conoce todos los temas, entonces las canciones donde trabajan otras chicas son una sorpresa siempre.
T: Ahora, otro proyecto en donde trabajas es "Voces Anónimas", una gran serie de la TV Uruguaya, que haces ahí?, como empiezas a trabajar en el proyecto?
TP: Voces Anónimas es un programa de TV que trata sobre leyendas urbanas, donde hay muchas historias de fantasmas y de miedo en general. Con una producción excelente en cuanto a efectos e imágenes. Es un programa que tiene mucho éxito en mi país que se está vendiendo a otros países.
Esta es la tercera temporada de la serie, y yo me incorporé al equipo a fines del año pasado, para trabajar con ellos en la producción musical.
Los productores de la serie tenían la necesidad de usar tracks y efectos que fueran creados para las historias para reforzar aun más identidad del producto final. Y en su búsqueda, tuve la suerte de cruzarme en su camino y de que mi trabajo les gustara lo suficiente como para que me dieran la oportunidad de unirme a su equipo.
Lo que hago básicamente es crear tracks específicos para las historias.
Que contienen elementos que ayudan al televidente a situarse en el lugar en el que suceden las historias. Esto implica cierto trabajo de investigación y de producción de sonidos. Muchas veces desde cero, siendo creados a partir de grabaciones de ambiente, obteniendo así efectos de sonido reales. También creo muchas texturas a partir de ruidos que uso de fondo para dar ambiente bajo melodías de pianos u otros instrumentos.
Por ejemplo para una historia que trata sobre una momia, use sonidos de instrumentos típicos egipcios y melodías arabicas, después aparecen la oscuridad y los picos de exaltación para generar suspenso y miedo. Es un trabajo muy interesante y divertido realmente. Y me siento profundamente a gradecida por tener la oportunidad de formar parte de esto.
T: Que rol juega Marcelo en la banda?
TP: Marcelo grabó las guitarras de los dos demos de Upon Shadows . Pero ya no forma parte del proyecto. Actualmente somos un dúo de mujeres. Natalia y yo.
T: En el demo 2009 tienen también la colaboración de Maira Aguilar, quien es ella?
TP: Sí, Maira es hermana de Marcelo, ella cantaba en una banda de Black metal y tuvimos la suerte de contar con su voz como invitada, para la grabación del tema Cygnus X1.
T: El nuevo material "Melodies in Grey Scale" muestra un cambio en la música, mucha atmósfera, muy gris, al menos es lo que percibo, como sientes a evolucionado el estilo de Upon Shadows desde el primer demo?

TP: Sí, hay un cambio bastante grande en este nuevo trabajo.
Empezando porque esta vez las guitarras las estoy grabando yo, y eso lo convierte en algo mucho más personal todavía.
Esta vez la propuesta es una fusión entre la fuerza y la energía del metal llevadas por la guitarra, bajo voz y batería con melodías más grises que he hecho hasta ahora en el teclado y las letras más depresivas que he escrito. Es por lejos lo más oscuro de Upon Shadows hasta el momento. Lo que intentamos decir en este nuevo álbum es que la tristeza en todos sus matices de grises, no va de la mano de la debilidad. Y que aun en las melodías más tristes y en las palabras más grises, los que amamos el metal podemos encontrar belleza. Es un disco muy nihilista y caprichoso. Sí, todas las voces para este disco son mías.
T: Planes de presentarse en vivo?
TP: No, por el momento no tenemos intenciones de tocar en vivo.
