Transcendence's "Towards Obscurities Beyond" CD is a melodic death metal album inspired by 1990s Swedish death and black metal, but with a modern and powerful sound. Its balance of raw and polished production, solid songwriting, and dynamic tempo changes have earned it praise for its consistency and ability to create a captivating atmosphere, drawing us in with its blend of black, death, and melodic elements. It pays homage to the classic sound of bands like Dissection and Exhumation, but with a modern twist. The album combines mid-paced sections with faster, blastbeat-driven moments, which keeps the music captivating. The album's ability to create a dark and fantastical atmosphere, immersing us in its world. The balance between raw and polished production allows the band's musicianship to shine. At approximately 38 minutes in length, the album is considered a powerful and impactful listen, avoiding unnecessary repetition or filler.
A raw black metal split released on April 1, 2022, on Adirondack Black Mass Records. Garhelenth (Iran) contributes three tracks: "Union of Cursed Blood", "Andiseh va Setiz", and "Thy Grim Dogmatism". A solo black metal project by Hilnorgoth, active since 2010. Its three tracks feature a visceral, lo-fi, and raw black metal aesthetic: abrasive yet powerful riffs, raw production, and an underground spirit. The compositions are compact and precise. "Union of Cursed Blood" clocks in at under 4 minutes, channeling a grim intensity and concentrated aggression.
Isataii (USA) contributes two tracks: "Shadows of Desolation" and "A Spirits of Death". Reuben Galarza is a solo project based in Los Angeles, drawing on Comanche heritage (Penateka Comanche Black Metal) and a deeply personal and ancestral approach. His contributions maintain a raw and atmospheric Black Metal style, imbued with menace and emotional charge. Vocals range from harsh screams to guttural growls, supported by evocative riffs and a haunting atmosphere. Garhelenth offers a direct, pure, and aggressive experience, minimalist yet powerful. Isataii brings a more atmospheric and culturally rooted dimension: historical, melancholic, and intense. Together, they form a cohesive listen that encompasses both ferocity and a ritualistic atmosphere. The CD. Split "Union of Cursed Blood" stands as a captivating snapshot of raw, unpolished Black Metal from two solo artists with distinct identities.
Ramihrdus The Americans directly from Wisconsin release quite dark and atmospheric sounds left and right also with a lot of post black and black related sounds but in such a calm way.
"The Sorrow of the Evergreens" seven songs make up this great album that delighted us from start to finish with so many epic and interesting songs, the opening with "Blackfire Sky" is already brutal and then a development with songs such as "Beyond the Pines" "Shackled by Despair" couple of songs that surprised me for good and then when you get ready to finish the album you get a sound as huge as it is with "Eternal Rest" a true epic work.
Let's remember more important information about this album that was published on August 20, 2021. Let's remember that Bryce Witt: is in charge of all the instruments, voices and production. And he collaborates in additional voices of Rick Sowl.
Let's remember that the photos of the Album were by Spencer Selover and Pixabay as well as the Layout and design of the album by Bryce Witt. I totally recommend this great CD.
From USA washington is presented to us Mysticism Black. A very epic and atmospheric style wrapped in black metal that is a fairly large scene in the United States where they have managed to make a characteristic black sound of that country. A brutal impact on your face and a machine of hate and pain is this great band. Dark and brutal themes as well as forcefulness in the performances and compositions is what they present to us in their album "Return Of The Bestial Flame" If you are a true lover of extreme metal made with all the most incredible hate listen to this great album. Recall that his album is also in edition, something that seemed very ideal for the message that is transmitted from the old school present destroying everything, but with many current revolutions giving more strength to the destruction of humanity itself with its sound.
Uada a band that really elevates and transmits and
is very much the dark feeling and everything that other styles can not manifest
that the Oregon Portland natives, extreme but dark sounds never letting
themselves be carried away only by making fast and rabid music but depressive
choruses, changing voices, and a true astral journey of the North Americans,
Devoid of light is a true song to the darkness and an incredible experience for
lovers of black metal deeper, escaping something from the old school but
without losing the essence of the genre.
Draconian Oracle – (Full Demo) I found this demo accidentally and should
to say this’s really absolutely killer material! It includes only two tracks
and lasts some more 10 minutes but it totally involves you in its dark
atmosphere during this time. And the reason of it is simple – it is True and
Evil Black metal! If you are fan of 90’s Norwegian scene you will definitely
like raw archaic atmospheric sound of this demo with grim shrieking vocal. Long
simple mid-tempo guitar tremolos are catching you at once and hold till the
end. The second track has a short but beautiful guitar lead. The feature is
clean choir vocals entering sometimes and bringing a piece of ancient epic
atmosphere. It will be very interesting to hear full-length of Draconian Oracle
so I will wait for it.
T: Hi Mika, Why did you
choose the band name Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus?
M: Nihilistinen
Barbaarisuus is Finnish for “nihilistic barbarism”, a philosophical concept I
read about in “The Little Book of Atheist Spirituality” by French philosopher
André Comte-Sponville (our newest release – the ‘Madness Incarnate’ EP – has a
track called “Comte-Sponville” in his honor). The other band founder (Manuel Rodriguez) and I decided to go with
Finnish instead of English or Swedish because it suggested a strong connection
to Finnish/Nordic culture, as well as just sounded better.
T: (is) the style you
play ambient black metal?
M: I still consider the
band ambient black metal generally, but if you compare the first LP ‘Synkkä
Tuuli’ to ‘Madness Incarnate’ I think it’s clear the band has developed with
regard to both production and musical style. The first few releases were straightforward raw atmospheric black metal,
similar to Paysage D’Hiver and Velvet Cacoon, whereas the last LP ‘The Child
Must Die’ took the first big steps toward elevating production quality while
becoming more progressive.With ‘Madness
Incarnate’ I decided to experiment with doom and death metal riffing, a
direction I plan to continue upon.
T: Your last production
(album) is called “the child must die”. How has the feedback been from
magazines, reviewers and your fans.
M: TCMD came out in April
of 2015 on Infernal Kommando Records, and the reviews were mainly
positive.Prior to TCMD the releases
were routinely criticized for being lofi, something I felt was unfair as it was
essentially criticizing raw music for being raw. However, having better access to studio
equipment alleviated much of this with TCMD, and now with the release of
‘Madness Incarnate’ I can confidently state the critical response has become
overwhelmingly positive, much more so than anticipated even.
T: “The Kalevala or The
Kalewala Finnish: is a 19th-century work of epic poetry by Elias Lonnrot from
Karelian and Finish oral folklore and mythology. It is regarded as the national
epic of Karelia and Finland and is one of the most significant works of Finnish
literature. The Kalevala played an instrumental role in the development of the
Finnish national identity, the intensification of Finland's language strife and
the growing sense of nationality that ultimately led to Finland's independence
from Russia in 1917.”
Is “the child must die”
CD based on this subject? Our followers would like to know, why this subject
was chosen for this album.
M: TCMD is conceptually
based entirely on The Kalevala, to the extent that all the song lyrics (with
the exception of the title-track) were taken verbatim from an English-language
translation/interpretation.Originally I
intended to write all original songs, but since The Kalevala is a poem to begin
with I ultimately felt silly writing poetry about a poem, and since nothing I
could come up with would ever surpass the legendary prose of The Kalevala, I
decided rather to adapt the existing text instead. As to my reason for selecting The Kalevala to
begin with, my aim was to utilize my musical ability to contribute to the
culture of my ancestral homeland while strengthening my own ties in the
process.
T: How has it been
working with Infernal Komando Records, you guys used to work with Horror Gore
Death Productions. What happened?
M: I’ve never been
contracted with a label to make multiple albums, always just one at a
time. This is good in a sense because it
leaves open the possibility to network with other companies, but is also bad
because there is no consistency and “shopping” for labels can be very stressful. When it came to TCMD, I had already developed
a relationship with Infernal Kommando Records since they previously released
‘Synkkä Tuuli’ & the follow-up EP ‘Väinämöinen’ on cassette. For ‘Madness Incarnate’, I was aided by great
friend of the band Miloš Anić (NB’s unofficial manager at the time) who put me
in contact with Satanath Records in Ukraine.Satanath offered to release the EP on their sub-label, Symbol of
Domination Productions, as a co-production with Black Lion Productions in
Sweden.Between the two labels they were
able to cover all production costs, a major benefit I am very thankful for.
T: The Album art for
“The Child Must Die” was created by Luciana Nedelea. What is the concept and meaning of the CD's
album art.
M: All the art is based
on The Kalevala. For instance, one panel
is the battle with Pohyola for the Sampo (a magical item which brings good
fortune), whereas another is either Kullervo’s sister or Aino drowning
themselves.Luciana is an amazing artist
and I strongly recommend anyone looking for album art or logo design to visit
http://www.facebook.com/LucianaNedeleaArt.
T: You also have another
band called Lawrence's Creation that released a CD called “Drop Zone” . It's
very different from Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus. What can you tell us about this
project.
M: Lawrence’s Creation
was a band I joined as bassist for one album; it was begun by Lawrence Wallace
(ex-Serpent ov Old, ex-Shadows in the Crypt) – a talented multi-instrumentalist
(he was guest keys on some NB releases) – to showcase his virtuosity on guitar,
and I joined basically to help structure some songs and manage the project so
as to get the material released.Ultimately we put out an album, ‘Drop Zone’, on Horror Pain Gore Death
Productions, after which I left to focus on NB.
T: What bands have
influenced the sound of the band? Can you name a few bands?
M: When Manuel and I
first began playing our general influences were other raw atmospheric acts like
Paysage d’Hiver, Velvet Cacoon, and Dark Space.Manuel also had personal influences he put into his riffing such as
Graveland, Hate Forest, and Horna (on ‘Synkkä Tuuli’ I wrote my riffs to
complement his, so my personal influences weren’t so much in play).Once Manuel left (following the release of
ST) my influences became more prominent in the music as I’m much more into
progressive bands like Enslaved, Naglfar, Old Man’s Child, and Rotting Christ.
T: What else would you
like to say to the readers and followers of The Legion Of TchorT Zine?
M: I’d just like to say
thank you for all the support thus far, and please listen to our most recent EP
‘Madness Incarnate’ anyway you can!It
is available from Satanath Records/Symbol of Domination Productions, Black Lion
Productions, iTunes, Amazon, and Bandcamp!
T: Where can you get
Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus y Lawrence´s Creation merch?
Excommunicated band of death black metal originating from USA present us
their disc Death Devout almost in its entirety a disc of covers of 2018.
Remember that this band has a theme of the dark history of the Catholic church
that is what their lyrics are about and so is the intro of that album. A theme
of protest quite original to this sector of society, and DD is a record where
you hear many choirs and you imagine in the church but a damn good. A voice
that reminds you of the first Malevolent Creation and a music that is primarily
death metal but with black influence. Excommunicated is: Mike Heller Drums
Bruno Muenzler Bass Jonathan Joubert Guitars, Bass Jason McIntyre Guitars, Bass
Chad Kelly Vocals Active since 2010 and supported by the label UW Records, they
bring us this album of 2018 that only edited 500 copies and started with themes
such as: Excommunicate and Anathema Body Count (Morgoth cover) And Here I Die
... Satisfied (Grave cover) Edible Autopsy (Cannibal Corpse cover) Nightmare
Lake (Cemetary cover) For God Your Soul, For Me Your Flesh (Pungent Stench
cover) Inside the Torn Apart (Napalm Death cover) Quite good and quality each
version, giving an original and interesting touch to each versioned theme. We
continue the madness and insanity with: Intoxicated (Obituary cover) Lunatic of
God's Creation (Deicide cover) World Eater (Bolt Thrower cover) The Invocation
Day of Suffering (Morbid Angel cover) Blessed Are the Sick / Leading the Rats
(Morbid Angel cover) Theme after theme sounds brutal since they chose very
classic pieces from each band and they sound with an excellent quality. It is
followed by an outro to close with two themes of the legendary: Anal Cunt and
Samhain. Bone Fragments (Outro) Radio Hit (Anal Cunt cover) Archangel (Samhain
cover) If you like covers and you follow death metal, do not miss this album.
