Terra Australis (Australia)

Terra Australis (Australia)

Ok, here we have some new blasting raw and evil full length album with Melbournes and probably Australias most hated band. Terra Australis have returned with a new CD and it can only be positive. When I start listening to it I first noticing that the sound is a bit different. Not to the bad or so, but it sounds basically more filthty and raw and that type of sound fits the band damn well. First track "Hail Hellfire" starts up and is a perfect opening blend of pure raw filthy black metal of the best kind. Second track "Stride of the underworld" is a bit slower and proves the bands way of keep it various too. Only thing I feel sounds strange is that the solo guitar that sound a bit untuned in some places of the track. We head over to "Nefarious Covenant" that is a track of typical Terra Australis ways of doing it and that can only be perfect. A brilliant tempo change in the song that I truly love! Next up is the instrumental song "Infinite Ritual" that starts up melodic and a bit depressive and melacholic, but without making it wrong. Fifth track "Bestial Ritual" that is one of my favorites starts up raw, filty and totally evil wit ha great melody, this one even made me think a bit of early Marduk and Bathory´s album "The Return". "Chapel of Blood" comes next and here we talking about some real old school sound (like the drumming a lot here), you can here some punky/hc elements in it, a damn good song that probably is one of my "top" favorite tracks with the band too as I love their dirty sound they always have got. The seventh track on this so far great album is "Oath to the fathomless abyss" that is more like a dark/evil introduction for the last track "Blood spikes and leather" that is one hell of a track, especially I like the start up in it that goes over to a fast blasting raw song. Also here you hear the filht punk sound that duel with pure raw intense black metal. Exactly in the same vein as early Bathory, Marduk, but this time I can also hear some elements of bands like old swedish Anti-Cimex, Black Uniforms and Asocial too. Some last comment to say is that the album is really well worth to check up as this is one of their best releases so far and a very positive thing to say about Terra Australis is that they truly keep the flag of real underground black metal alive both in their sound and performing. My personal favorite tracks is absolutely "Bestial Ritual", "Chapel of Blood" and "Blood Spikes & Leather".
